Since you’re a blogger, you may be more focused on writing your blog posts and monetizing them than you are with anything else. What if something else unforeseen happened? You would want a way to contact your readers and continue making money, wouldn’t you? That’s why it’s so important to know how to create a great opt-in form for your blog so you can start to build your list.
The chances are good that you belong to some marketing lists yourself. Perhaps you signed up on another blogger’s page, or after you’d purchased a product. Think about which lists you like belonging to, and what made you decide to join in the first place. Emulate this process with your own blog!
Your first step is to sign up with an autoresponder service. The service will keep track of the details of those on your list, and let you sent out follow up and broadcast e-mails. AWeber, E-mail Aces, and Get Response are all popular options. Any one of these services will give you the tools you need to generate an HTML or JavaScript opt-in form for your blog. You’ll simply paste this form in on the appropriate spot on your blog — perhaps even using a pop-up to capture even more e-mails.
You will need to give people a reason and an incentive to sign up for your list. For many marketers, this comes in the form of a free report. You can give this free report away in exchange for their e-mail! People love to get things for free, so you should find that you get a lot of sign-ups with a regular readership. Make sure the free report is finely tuned to exactly what these people are looking for, whether it be an answer to their problem or something that fuels their passion.
You may want to create a dedicated squeeze page as well. The squeeze page can be linked to from your blog — you can also promote it using article marketing, pay per click, and other traffic generation methods. The squeeze page will have one purpose, and that is to get people to opt-in to your list.
You’ll want to have a series of follow-up messages that will be sent after someone has opted in to your list. The first one should include a welcoming message, as well as the free report that you are giving away. The rest of the content is up to you! Some people like to take a more informational stand with occasional promotional e-mails. Other people like to send more promotional e-mails. It’s all a matter of what your readers are used to, as well as your personal style.
Examine what other marketers do for list building in your niche to see what might work best for you. If you never made an online video before, you might be intimidated about the process. Thankfully, it tends to be easier than you might think! You don’t even need a high degree of technical skill. The tools that are out there these days are designed to be very user-friendly, so it’s just a matter of finding the ones that will work best for you.
First of all, every affiliate marketer needs to have screen capture software. It is perfect for demonstrating how to do things on the web (helpful if you are creating tutorials, etc.), recording PowerPoint presentations, and so on.
Camtasia Studio is the most popular screen capture option for PC users because it is so powerful. If you’re a PC user on a budget, you might want to check out CamStudio instead. Mac users have the option of using something inexpensive like iShowU, or using the top-of-the-line ScreenFlow software. Camtasia Studio is now also available for the Macintosh!
In addition to using screen capture software, you may want to get a WebCam as well. This is perfect for recording talking head videos where you speak directly to your audience. Many laptops come with a web cam built right in, making this an easy option. Even if your computer does not already have one installed, you can purchase these cameras very inexpensively.
Yet another tool you might consider is a video camera. These are great for recording product reviews and talking head videos. Flip Video and other pocket-sized camcorders ar
e perfect for this purpose since you can easily carry them around — they are also relatively inexpensive!
It can be intimidating to try and put the videos together even after you’ve recorded them. Thankfully, certain products include ways to edit the video right within them, such as ScreenFlow and Camtasia. Videos taken with Flip video also have some minor editing capabilities, which will be fine for many purposes.
You will find that you don’t need to do something fancy all the time in order to create videos to promote products or establish yourself as an expert. Many of the best programs automatically encode for you in the proper format. This can be a great timesaver when you need to create many videos in a short timeframe.
The most important thing is that you do not get off scared off of creating video. It no longer takes an entire film crew to put out a video! All you need is your computer and a small amount of equipment and you should be ready to go.

As you start to set up your website and marketing funnel to get affiliate sales, you may feel it’s time to sit back and watch the sales roll in. Unfortunately, it doesn’t usually happen that way! You need to take measures to get visitors to your website. One of the best ways to do that is through article marketing.
Article marketing is basically when you write an article and submit it to a high traffic article directory. These directories are generally free to submit to and allow you to include an author’s resource box with a link to your website in exchange for your articl
e. By putting your article up in the directory you are also giving other people rights to use your article on their website as long as they keep your resource box intact.
Submitting articles to directories serves a few different purposes. For one thing, you’re expanding your reach and your brand online by putting your article in front of targeted viewers from already established websites. These targeted viewers are likely to click on your author’s resource box if you have set your article up in the right way.
Another purpose to article marketing is that you’ll get a backlink that can help improve your rankings in the search engines. The more backlinks you have, the better chance you have of ranking for your desired search terms.
Yet another purpose is that you can get even more backlinks when authors, webmasters, and marketers find your web article and post it on their own website. If you get a popular article you may find that you get dozens or even hundreds of backlinks from a single effort!

No matter how great your article is, if your resource box is not compelling enough that people want to click through your link to get you to your website, you will lose out on a lot of opportunities.
The first step in creating a good author’s resource box is to focus on what the people who are reading the article are most curious about. For example, if your article is about using natural products to clear acne, then you will want to entice people with talk of natural products to clear acne in your resource box to keep it connected and keep the interest going. Give a call to action compelling them to “click here to receive a free report on natural methods to clear acne fast!,” or “click here to get 50% off the best natural acne clearing method around!,” etc.
Target your resource box and include a call to action in when you submit articles and you’ll increase your click-through rates dramatically! Way too many marketers just take on the resource box without a second thought, which is a huge mistake! Take some time on this resource box because it does make a big difference to how much traffic you can get to your website and much money you can make as an affiliate marketer.

Wordpress.com is very commonly used by those who want to get started blogging. It’s important not to confuse this with Wordpress.org, which is the self-hosted script. When you go with Wordpress.com, they will host everything for you — you will choose a domain name on their server, such as http://yourdomain.wordpress.com. It’s very easy to get started with this blog host!
First, go to Wordpress.com. You should see a button on your right signaling that you can sign up for the service. Go ahead and click that and you’ll be taken to their “one step form” to fill out. You will add information such as your desired username, password, and so on. Once you have filled that out and accepted their terms and conditions, you’ll be taken to the next page. You can now choose your domain name and blog title. If the domain you want has already been taken, don’t despair! Simply try some alternatives.
After completing that step, you’ll be asked to confirm your e-mail address. Once you do, you’re in! You’re ready to log in to the backend of your new blog. You’ll find that your admin area contains several links on the left-hand side. This will allow you to make blog posts, create pages, change the look of your blog, upgrade the script, and so on.
It’s best to check this out yourself and really get a feel for the setup. Be sure to take a look at the way your blog looks (at the URL you’ve chosen for your blog) whenever you make changes or add posts. Wordpress.com does have an awesome help section and community, should you ever get stuck.
Starting a hosted blog at Wordpress.com is actually a great start if you plan on having your own self-hosted blog using Wordpress.org someday. That’s because the backends are incredibly similar! You won’t have to learn a completely different platform when you make the switch. This is a great thing for many people.
There are downsides to using this hosted option as well. They are actually quite strict about doing any form of marketing on your blog. If you plan on making some great affiliate sales, you might run into some issues as far as monetization goes. They can yank your blog down without warning if they find that your site is too commercial or covers a topic they don’t agree with!
If you’re willing to risk that, it’s a nice way to get started because Wordpress.com is so easy to use and segues nicely into moving up to your own self-hosted Wordpress in the future.

As an affiliate marketer, you will want to spend as much time as possible on niche research. Of course, when you hear the word “research” you probably think of all those days you spent in school with dread. In this case, niche research can actually be exciting because you can make a lot of money with it as an affiliate marketer!
A niche is basically a topic you want to focus on. It is a group of people that are interested in a certain thing. Perhaps it is people who want to improve 
their golf swing, people who want to learn how to raise beta fish, people who want to fall in love, or something else altogether.
Think of your friends and family members. What problems are they experiencing in their lives? What hobbies and passions do they have? You can even examine your own life and think about the things you are most interested in and what problems you have.
It can help to make a list of these things so you get a feel for what is out there. However, it is absolutely important to understand that not every niche is a good one to go with. That’s because not every niche contains buyers!
For example, some people might think that it’s a good idea to create a website full of recipes for people who are interested in cooking. You might think you can just throw up affiliate links for cookbooks and make a lot of money. Unfortunately, it is often the case that those who are searching for recipes online need something quickly. They are more likely to use the free recipes they find rather than purchasing a cookbook and waiting for it to ship.
However, when you’re focusing on someone who has lost their love, they are absolutely desperate to win that person back. If you present to them an e-book that is directly targeted and promises (and delivers) a way to win back their love quickly with an easily downloadable book, they are probably very likely to buy right then and there!
That’s not to say that only digital products are the way to go. You can definitely make a great income with physical products as well. For example, if you did want to target a niche of people who want to improve their golf swing, all you would need to do is create a website around a particular product related to doing so. When people are about to make a purchase, they tend to get very specific with their searches. The chances of you making a sale are greatly improved if you can get your website ranking high in Google for specific products or types of products.
There are many different ways to go about this niche research. You may want to start out fairly broad and work your way up. Going back to the golfing example, you can visit golfing forums to determine what products they are buying or problems they need solved.
Or, if you are sure you want to promote a digital product, you can head over to ClickBank and see how well those golf related products are selling. Then, you could base your site or your promotion around that product or sub-niche. If you want to promote physical products, you can look at the bestsellers over at Amazon or eBay to get a feel for what you want to promote.
In general, the more specific and targeted you are the better. Many newbies make the mistake of being way too general and find it difficult to make sales. So, know that being specific is best and that making sure you are targeting a niche that is actually spending money is crucial.

Now that you have a successful marketing campaign producing leads, it is time to move them through your sales funnel. In the previous section we explained how to get your initial offer in front of the decision maker and drive the potential client to your website. The website is going to be a key part of your client acquisition strategy.
There are two ways to deliver your sales message, long sales copy and video. Long sales copy is the traditional way of creating your sales letter on your website. It is mostly text with bold headlines and a few well placed graphics. This method has been used for years and can provide a very high conversion rate. The newest method involves creating a sales video that takes the place of the long copy. The website has a headline and then a video and that is all. The video covers everything that a sales letter would, but it can be done as a slide presentation or it can be you speaking to the camera. Many online marketers are moving towards video for all their sales presentations.
With either method, you want to make sure your sales presentation includes a call to action. This call to action should be the next step in your sales funnel, which will be a free report or video. This is where you can offer a sample of your services to further entice the prospect. This can be something along the lines as, “The Ten Mistakes Every Business Must Avoid with Their Marketing Campaigns.” This will make your prospect wonder what the mistakes are and how to avoid them. Nobody wants to make mistakes if they can be avoided! In order for them to get your report or video you will capture their name and phone number. Now you know you have an interested lead and you can follow up with them further and you are one step closer to closing that deal.
The easiest way to distribute your free report is in Adobe’s PDF format, which is the universally accepted format for distribution of whitepapers and similar reports that your clients may have read.
The free report should offer a glimpse of some of your services you will be offering. For example, if you will be providing an autoresponder follow up program, explain in your report how businesses can lose some of their repeat business by not following up with their customers. Touch on each point of your comprehensive marketing plan, so by the time they are done with the report they immediately reach for the phone to call you. Later on in the course we will be covering the different services you can offer and how to sell them to your clients.

The best part of providing local business internet marketing services for business owners is that you don’t have to look very hard to find clients. There are thousands of independent businesses that need your expertise. In this part of the course we will cover how to find the ideal candidate for your services.
The first place to look is the very places that you patronize regularly. These can be restaurants, auto repair shops, hobby store, insurance agent or any other local independently owned business. Since you already use their services, you should have a pretty good idea of ways you can improve their marketing. You have already used their products or services which will give you good insight into their customer relations and sales process.
The next place to look might seem a little too obvious, but an online search can be very effective in locating businesses. Just do a search for the product or service plus the city name/area. The key is to skip the results on the first page since they most likely already have an online marketing plan in place. Instead concentrate on the results on page two and beyond. Visit each site and see what type of online presence they have. Take special note of the ones that have no online lead capture or call to action on their sites. These will be the perfect candidates for your services.
Another great way to engage potential clients is through local business networking events. You can often find local luncheons and breakfasts hosted by the Chamber of Commerce or Better Business Bureau. Lookup these organizations in your area and let them know you are an expert in online marketing. Offer to give a presentation at their next event. Just make sure to do an informative presentation that doesn’t look like a sales pitch. Give them enough good pieces of information that they will seek you out afterwards. Be sure to bring enough business cards!
Next, go pickup your phone book and find one of your target categories. Look for the businesses that have purchased an advertisement in that section. These are businesses that you know already have an advertising budget and our prime candidates for your services. Many businesses spend a large portion of their budgets for these ads when they could be paying for your services and get a better return for their money. Another print publication to look in is your local community newsletters. These can be found for free in local establishments. Look at the ads and notice the businesses that are advertising. Again these will be well targeted businesses because they are already spending money.
At this point you should have a pretty good list of potential clients. Now it is time to start pursuing these businesses and sign them up as a client. Coming up next we will show you exactly how to get your foot in the door and get a meeting with the decision maker.
